L'Espérance Pinot Noir Vertical: 2011-2012-2013-2014
L’Espérance has a special place in hearts and history of Soliste. If not for L’Espérance in 2009, we would never have begun our MonoClone® obsession. In this vintage, we had just two barrels of the Dijon 115 clone from the family vineyard. Every time we tried to make a blend with the other Pinot Noir clone, the identity, singularity, and Purity of those two barrels was affected. We simply could not alter their excellence by compromising it, therefore the decision to never blend our MonoClone became our Raison d’Etre at Soliste.
We limited L’Espérance in 2009 to just 49 cases and our MonoClone journey began. Our fascination with the great red Burgundies comes from the singular aromatics and complexities that are born in unique vineyards but a few kilometers apart. It is why we undertook the challenge and risk to focus on each specific clone of Pinot Noir that is best in harmony with each vineyard site – our Single Vineyard, Single Clone, and Single Cooperage wines – MonoClone®.
In honor of this special wine, we have dug into our cellar to create the rarest of verticals: four years of L’Espérance: 2011-2012-2013-2014. This represents some of the most interesting vintages and the first release of the 2014. What a dinner and conversation these wines might inspire…
