For the first time since the birth of Soliste, Don and I start our days with the realization that barrels will not bear the harvest of 2020 and will sit empty. In our last newsletter and release, we spoke on how painfully we came about making the decision not to pick this vintage. Northern California fires have burned well over 4 million acres, more than doubling the previous grim milestone. Many wineries, vineyards, and people’s lives have been destroyed or deeply hurt not only by the persistence of Covid-19 and its economic impact on the wine region but also by the smoke. No matter how devastating this year has been for all of us, Today must be a new day. We cannot let ourselves be prisoners of our dark thoughts and events beyond our control that will test our resolve. Don and I are ready to write the next chapter for Soliste on our own terms.
A sabbatical year can be a great time to reflect and rejuvenate ourselves in order for the wines to have a deep connection to our commitment. The culture must remain intact; We will overcome this year, but we need to plant new positive seeds so Soliste can remain what it was always intended to be and do. Soliste is our therapeutic Domaine. We crafted our wines to be the connector of happy souls around the dinner table, and for you, your friends and family to have a moment of bliss and lasting joyous memories.
And so, it is without hesitation and deep pride that we create this exceptional release to remind us that there is no greater pleasure but to share with you our most compelling Pinots Noirs, rather than have them sit another year while we wait for the restaurants to have their own Renaissance.
